Description

Created with Ultra Fractal 5.04, using the Rudy’s Cubic (Mandelbrot) formula in mt.ufm, along with the Sierpinski plane from sam.ufm and the standard Mandelbrot.

Durga is a Hindu goddess symbolic of ‘shakti’, the divine creative feminine force. (See the Wikipedia article here: [link] . At this time of the year a festival in her honour is celebrated in India. The image you see is similar to the artistic representation of Durga commonly seen on several greeting cards that are exchanged during the festival. (The link to an e-card example is here: [link] ). As seen in this image, the goddess is represented with three eyes. The left eye represents desire (the moon), the right eye represents action (the sun), and the central eye knowledge (fire). In the foreground you see a pot upon which leaves and a green coconut have been placed, a traditional offering to the goddess, also commonly seen on greeting cards.

This fractal is, in part, inspired by the wonderful work of Kattvinge. See the fractal titled Maya 49 on this page: [link] I didn’t use the same parameters, or the same method - because I am not yet comfortable with using masks - but studying her fractal gave me some ideas of how to approach the above project.

I had a hard time making my mind up about the background. It is meant to look like clay as there is an old tradition of making clay idols of the goddess. But I have a feeling I will keep on experimenting with different backgrounds. If so, I’ll just have to update this.:)
