Created with UF5.04, for the UF Monthly Challenge [link] "High Hopes for Japan". For every fractal entered in the challenge, =snow-valkyrie and her family will donate $5 to the American Red Cross [link] .
Quoting directly from a Wikipedia article, the "Three Sacred Treasures of Japan, consist of the sword Kusanagi (草薙劍), the mirror Yata no Kagami (八咫鏡), and the jewel Yasakani no Magatama (八尺瓊曲玉). The regalia represent the three primary virtues: valor (the sword), wisdom (the mirror), and benevolence (the jewel)." The legend associated with the treasures, a picture of their replicas, and other details can also be found in that article [link] . According to legend the mirror (wisdom/self-knowledge) was the most treasured of the treasures.
The above fractal is obviously inspired by these famous symbols of Japan. Of course, their representation isn't too literal. The 'mirror' is represented by the reflective water surface in the fractal, and the 'jewel' doesn't look like the real jewel, which is supposed to be an embryo shaped jade pendant. The 'sword' in the centre, dividing the fractal in two, is actually a little like the sword in question, but I didn't try too hard to make it so. According to an alternative interpretation, the mirror represents the sun, so I could also claim that the sun in the fractal represents the mirror.
I liked the idea I had, but I am not sure about my execution of it! But it is for a good cause, and I am pleased to be able to make a small, albeit indirect, contribution.
This is so beautiful and so full of promises
